In Loving Memory Of My
Granddaughter
Deanna M. Kendrick
11/12/1992
4/11/1993

Deanna was such a happy and loving baby
girl.

Deanna had a smile that would capture your
heart.

Deanna died
of SIDS in our home on Easter Sunday 4/11/1993. She was just one day
shy of being 5 months old. She was a very alert and happy baby.
There is no way to describe the loss you feel when you loose a child
or grandchild. Below you will find some information and links that
concern SIDS.

"SIDS"
Definitions
of Sudden Infant Death Syndrome
In 1969,
researchers agreed to define sudden infant death syndrome (SIDS) as
"the sudden death of an infant or young child, which is unexpected
by history, and in which a thorough postmortem examination fails to
demonstrate and adequate cause of death" (Bergman,
1970).
In 1989, an
expert panel was convened by the National Institute of Child Health
and Human Development (NICHD) to review the scientific knowledge on
sudden infant death syndrome from the last 20 years and to determine
whether the current criteria for SIDS diagnosis should be revised.
This panel amended the definition of SIDS to read "the sudden death
of an infant under one year of age which remains unexplained after a
thorough case investigation, including performance of a complete
autopsy, examination of the death scene, and review of the clinical
history" (Willinger, et al., 1991).

Back is
Best
Now I lay me down to sleep, on my back
for safest keep. It's tummy time when I'm awake, but back is
best for sleeping breaks.
Keep quilts, toys and pillows out
of my bed. Never put covers over or beneath my head.
Cigarettes are bad for me. Please keep my environment
smoke-free.
These may be many rules to know, but minding
them will help me grow! Remember this rhyme when caring for
kids, and help reduce the risk of SIDS.
Following these
steps will not prevent all SIDS deaths but will offer your baby the
best chance to thrive. For more information, contact the SIDS
Alliance at 1-800-221-SIDS (7437)
